The Living One – Revelation 1:17-18

“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, ‘Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.’”

Revelation 1:17-18

In Christ, we have nothing to fear. Our God is the living one. He is alive, and He is reigning. Even now. Our Lord will never be defeated—victory is His forever. He was there from the beginning. He will be there, reigning in glory at the last. And He is here now.

We can hold fast to our hope in any situation because of this truth. We can place our trust in Him because He is victorious and His purposes can’t be thwarted. No matter how slim a chance of success we see, we can entrust it to our God and believe that He will be faithful to do what is best and that He is mighty enough to overcome all obstacles. No matter how dark our days, we look to our God who is alive forevermore, who promised to never leave us or forsake us, and believe that He will strengthen us, strengthen our heart, and not leave us alone in the fire and the flood.

“But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel; Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flames shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Isaiah 43:1-3a

“The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD sits enthroned as king forever. May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!” Psalm 29:10-11
