Providence – Mark 14:13-16

“And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, ‘Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, “The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?” And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.’ And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.” Mark 14:13-16

God is at work in the hearts of others to bring about His purposes, just as He is at work in ours. Here, the Spirit prepared the way for the disciples to find a room for the feast of Passover. However God chose to work to prepare the master of the house to accept them at their word and show them to an upper room that was ready for them, He did so perfectly and had everything exactly as He planned at the time they needed it.

Our heavenly Father does the same as we choose to follow where He leads. We don’t know how He will provide or where the doors will open, but He does. He already has all the details set and is putting other people in place to help us accomplish the task He places before us. He simply asks that we trust Him. He knows what He’s doing and He is able to bring it all about; we just need to walk that path and believe that He will be faithful. Our God who is strong in power will not fail us. He won’t miss a single detail, and He most definitely will not be late.

So let us move forward in faith, trusting that God has been working to bring everything together exactly as it should be. He’s had it all planned for far longer than we can imagine. And as we see things begin to fall in place, I pray that we will continue to be obedient with each step. That we won’t get distracted along the way or fail to follow through on our part. If we do, we’ll miss out on the joy of an abiding, obedient walk with Christ. When the disciples found everything just as Jesus had told them, they didn’t take a break. They finished the task and prepared the Passover. It’s a beautiful example of God’s providence in our circumstances and our faithfulness to Him through it.
