Pour Out Your Heart – Psalm 62:8

“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:8

At times I think we can forget that God cares about our details. That’s He’s involved in our heart and our life to the smallest level. So the call to “trust in him at all times” doesn’t only apply to the big events and life-altering circumstances. You can “pour out your heart before Him” about anything and everything that is weighing on your heart.

If the God of Heaven puts our tears in a bottle (Psalm 56:8), if He knows when we sit down and rise up, searches out our path and our lying down, and is acquainted with all our ways (Psalm 139:2-3), we can trust that He is aware of each detail concerning us. Whatever fear or worry you’re dealing with, it isn’t too small or inconsequential to express to the God who made you. He is the King of the Universe and reigns over all in majesty and splendor, but through Christ He is also your Father. The moment you choose to trust in Christ, surrender to His work in you, and allow His sacrifice to pay your debt, you are reconciled forever to the One who rules in heaven. More than that, you are brought into His family. A chosen, adopted, beloved child of God.

As His child, it’s expected that you will pour out your heart before Him. That when you are weary and burdened, you will come to Jesus and allow Him to take the weight and give you rest. You can trust Him to be a refuge. You can trust Him to hear you and to care about the things that are hindering your abundant life and your joy in Him. You can trust Him to never turn you away or make you feel like you’re wasting His time. He isn’t too busy. He isn’t weary of you. He loves you more steadfastly and more deeply than you can imagine, and He delights in the moments when you come to Him and pour out your heart. Whether your world is falling apart and you are facing an obstacle that seems impossible; or you find yourself at the end of what you can handle in your busy, chaotic life; or you are dealing with scars from your past that cause deep fears to rise in your heart—whatever the situation, however large or small it seems to your eyes, know that our God is great and powerful enough to handle it and small enough to draw near and see the tiniest break in your heart.

He is a refuge for you. In all things. You can trust in Him, because whatever you are dealing with, He sees and hears you, and He will show Himself strong and faithful. Pour out your heart. Hold nothing back. You are safe with Him—the One who has always been there and will never let you down.
