“But the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loved you.” Deuteronomy 23:5
Isn’t this what God does in our lives? It’s amazing that in all these generations, since before anything began, He has never changed…His faithfulness toward His loved ones has never faltered. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us that the devil prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to devour all that he can. He’s out to destroy us in any way possible. But all that he intends for evil and for our destruction, God purposes for good. Our God turns that potential curse into a blessing—a point in our lives when we experience His nearness, His faithfulness, and His strength to a greater degree; a point when God transforms us and opens our eyes to a life in Him that is more abundant and flourishing than ever before.
All of this because God loves us. A lot of people throw out the phrase “God loves you” somewhat casually, but when you really think about what that means it should change your entire perspective. We walk in the love of a God who reigns so completely that not a single enemy’s arrow will reach us without first being touched by the grace and redemption of our glorious Lord—and as our Shield, He may not allow the arrow to reach us at all. It is realizing the depth and height and perfection and endlessness of the love of our God that strengthens us to trust Him when the arrows threaten, and even when they reach our heart. Because that love is stronger than our fear, it is stronger than our doubt, it is stronger than the despair that tries to take hold of us. The love of God for us is steadfast enough to be a rock that we can cling to when we don’t understand what’s happening. Because we know that He loves us, we also know that nothing can stop Him from moving heaven and earth—literally if He wants to—in order to save us.
No matter what anyone else does or what circumstances arise, whatever seems to be out to destroy your life, it is no match for the God of Heaven who has written your days. Bask in His love. Walk confidently knowing it will never leave you. The darkest curse will be turned into blessing for you, not because you deserve it or worked hard enough to attain it, but because the LORD your God, your perfect Savior, Defender, and King, loves you.
“May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5
