“Come and see what God has done:
he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.”
The God of Heaven is involved in our lives. In our days. In our details. The wonder of this is astounding me all over again. Because so easily that thought can become commonplace…when it really is amazing.
To say, “He is awesome in His deeds toward the children of man” is to recognize that this magnificent, all-powerful God who reigns over everything acts for the children of man. He intentionally works on our behalf.
I can see why people would think that while God may exist, He isn’t involved in our day-to-day decisions. That He may create us, but then He just lets us go on our way. Because why would such a glorious God who oversees all of creation pay attention to the tiny, insignificant things we deal with? If it doesn’t matter on a global scale, why would He remotely care? He has bigger things to worry about, right?
But this is part of that unsearchable greatness of our God. He is so powerful, so unquestionably in control, that He is able to take care of those global impacts even as He hears the cry of one of His children and draws near to them in their private, silent pain.
Our fears, our anxiety, those moments of doubt or hurt, are not insignificant to Him.
“This I know, that God is for me.” Psalm 56:9b
“When I thought, ‘My foot slips,’ your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.” Psalm 94:18-19
“He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.” Psalm 121:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
“For he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold…For he will complete what he appoints for me, and many such things are in his mind.” Job 23:10, 14
These are statements that God has preserved in His perfect Word. His Word which will stand throughout eternity. He wants you to be aware of how much He cares for you. The God of Heaven thinks of you. Specifically. He loves you. Not in a generic, “I love everybody” way. He loves you. Intentionally. Steadfastly. Without question and without fail. Enough to give His life for you. Enough to draw you to Himself, knowing that without Him you have no hope, no forgiveness, no freedom. Enough to fight for you and act on your behalf. He loves you with all of your failures and all the things you wish you could change. He loves you enough that He doesn’t ask you to change for Him; He asks you simply to love Him and allow Him into your heart. Then He fills you with His strength, His joy, His victory, and He changes you so that you can live in freedom and light.
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance” (Luke 15:4-7). “Just so.” Rejoicing. Over one sinner who repents. By the angels in heaven and by God Himself, who has sought you out to bring you back to Him. This is the depth of His love for you. Let that truth wash over you and leave you speechless with awe in its wake.
