“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
My Lord goes before me, preparing my way. When He opens a door, no one can shut it. And when He shuts a door, no one can open it (Revelation 3:7). He has all power and authority and wisdom, and He has chosen to go before me as I walk through this life. So whatever twists and turns I come across, I know my God has already been here.
Not only does He go before me, but He also is with me in this moment. Hearing my cry, knowing my fears and hopes and uncertainties. He is here. He meets me where I am. I don’t have to try and get to where He is. My God isn’t constantly ahead of me, distant and unreachable. No, He draws near.
He will never leave, not for a moment. He will never forsake me, never turn away from doing good to me (Jeremiah 32:40), never cast me aside for someone better or stronger or more righteous, someone who has it all together and doesn’t falter near as often. My God is greater than me, and He shows this by never leaving my side—even in the times when I choose to step away from His. He is always here to welcome me back in grace and steadfast love.
So I do not need to fear. And I need not be dismayed as unexpected details play out. My God has prepared the way, He is with me here, and He always will be.
