In Its Time – Ecclesiastes 3:11

“He has made everything beautiful in its time” Ecclesiastes 3:11a

“The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing.” Psalm 145:15-16

“The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” Psalm 138:8

“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14

Life doesn’t always work out the way we expect. But God is reminding me this morning of a sweet, solid truth: He has made everything beautiful in its time. Not in our time. Not in the way we plan or work for. Everything may have seemed to crash around us. But our Lord will make it beautiful in His perfect timing. He is at work right now to make good on this promise. And His promises never fail us.

He gives us our food in due season—every provision we need, perfectly and unfailingly provided—so we can look to Him in confident faith. He will not fail. He will strengthen us, and in the moments when we feel entirely weak and unable to face what is before us, He is the strength of our heart. We can trust Him. He will satisfy our desires. It might look far different from what we had in mind, but His purposes for us are far greater and more satisfying. Because they are filled with His glory and grace, and are brought about by His power and wisdom.

Our God “is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work with us” (Ephesians 3:20). Let us hold fast to this truth even when we can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, and even when circumstances appear much more challenging than we expected. Nothing is impossible for the One who writes our days. No situation is too great, no obstacle too daunting for Him to conquer. He reigns over your life, and He loves you steadfastly. The Lord will fulfill His purpose for you. It will take time for all things to show their beauty and to shine with the glory of His grace. But it will all shine. Because He will make it to do so. His faithfulness will be evident in your life, particularly in the most difficult seasons. His love will be with us each morning. Never a day without it. Never a moment apart from the God who holds us. And He is great enough to satisfy us always. Our abundant portion, a fountain of life and joy and peace that never runs out.

“Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart” (Psalm 97:11). This is how our life in Christ is characterized—with light and joy sown into our path, not because we worked hard enough to attain them, but because we followed and clung to the One who delights in flooding our lives with His light and joy. “For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness” (Psalm 26:3).
