“Your right hand, O LORD, glorious in power; your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy…The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’ You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters. Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?”
Exodus 15:6, 9-11
There is an enemy out to destroy us. Satan wants to pursue and overtake us, to beat us down until we are completely overwhelmed and give up all faith. Every pain and difficulty he wants to use to his advantage and our destruction. But our God is greater than he is. So much greater, in fact, that there is no comparison. Our God is infinite and glorious in power. In Him, we have been declared free. Psalm 32:7 says that He surrounds you “with shouts of deliverance.” He wants you to hear and remember that when you place your trust in Christ, you are free and forgiven and your life is firmly in the hands of the One who made you and loves you forever.
One of my favorite promises in Scripture is Isaiah 49:17-18, “Your builders make haste; your destroyers and those who laid you waste go out from you. Lift up your eyes around and see; they all gather, they come to you. As I live, declares the LORD, you shall put them all on as an ornament; you shall bind them on as a bride does.” When I found it a few years ago, this is how God unfolded it for me: everything that sought to tear you down, everything that you thought would destroy you and break you forever, it will all be gathered to you by the King of glory. And when He gathers all of that hurt and betrayal and hardship, it will be transformed into jewels to adorn you. What He’s saying is that all that the enemy tried to use against you will actually be used by your heavenly Father to make you exponentially more beautiful, shining with His glory and grace.
“But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you” (Isaiah 43:1-2). Your God is with you in whatever you face. He is absolutely in control. The enemy can do nothing to you unless your Father allows it. You may not understand why He allows certain things to happen, but hold fast to His steadfast love and faithfulness, because it is always there. Know that He will not allow you to be overtaken. The enemy will not win. Your God is able to withstand every attack, and He is personally acting as your shield and refuge. It isn’t your strength that carries you—it’s Jesus. And because He is so much greater, this is the description of any who come against Him: “Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O LORD, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased” (Exodus 15:16).
