“For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.” Psalm 95:7
I find myself reflecting this morning on God as our Shepherd. He leads us, provides for us, protects us, defends us, watches over us always, strengthens us with His hand and binds up our wounds. He knows our name and every step we take, and He is with us in all that we face, personally guiding our way in the dark. Because even darkness is as light to Him.
It’s difficult to put into words how beautiful this relationship is and how its truth and steadfastness soothes the soul. So I want to simply dwell on the Scriptures my Lord has brought to mind, and allow His Spirit to highlight those truths that will bring light to your heart.
“Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out…and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness…I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD. I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak.” Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-16
“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep…My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:14-15, 27-28
“The Lord knows those who are his” 2 Timothy 2:19
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23
