“So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.’ Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; it lies between Kadesh and Bered.” Genesis 16:13-14
The name Beer-lahai-roi means “the well of the Living One who sees me.” Isn’t this a remarkable picture of God? It gives us such a sweet glimpse of who our God is and how He relates to each of us.
Hagar was merely an Egyptian servant, running away from the mistress who was mistreating her. Yet God sought her out. He spoke to her. He assured her of His plan and directed her in her next steps.
God does this with us. He is the Living One who sees you. He is real. He is here. He is aware of your circumstances and actively working in them. He will seek you out in your wilderness and show you who He is, revealing Himself to you in ways that refresh your spirit, encourage your heart, and strengthen your faith. Allow Him to draw near to you in this place. Don’t fight Him here; He is your light and hope, the One who truly understands and who loves you more purely and deeply than you can imagine.
“But the LORD’s portion is his people; Jacob his allotted heritage. He found him in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; he encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.” Deuteronomy 32:9-10
