“Your name, O LORD, endures forever,
your renown, O LORD, throughout all ages.”
“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And he said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you…The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.” This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.’” Exodus 3:14-15
The renown, the remembrance, the name of our Lord has endured through generations past. Thinking on when the books of the Bible were written, trying to wrap your mind around how far back these accounts of our God’s faithfulness to His people are dated, doesn’t it fill you with wonder that this is the same God who walks with us through everything we face? This is the same God who calls us into a relationship with Him, the same God with whom we can walk daily, whose mercies are new each morning and who gives us grace and strength for every moment.
And this will continue to be true forever. A few millennia are nothing compared to the infinity of our God. He will never change. Our Lord will continue to be exactly who He is, the unchangeable I AM, day in and day out and throughout all eternity. Magnificent in splendor. Majestic in holiness. Great in might. Rich in kindness. Righteous in justice. Extravagant in grace. Abounding in steadfast love.
Everything else can change, pass away, and fall apart. But the God who keeps us never will.
“‘For the mountains may depart
and the hills be removed,
but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,
and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,’
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.”
“Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you will remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
but you are the same, and your years have no end.”
