Glimpses of Hope – Job 3:15

“Though he slay me, I will hope in him”
Job 13:15a

“For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last he will stand upon the earth.”

Job 19:25

“But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold”

Job 23:10

As I read through Job, I can see reflections of how we cope with extreme pain and difficulty, even as we seek to hold fast to Christ. So much of the book is filled with despair and lamenting. Job even loathes life itself and wishes it would end. But woven in the midst of his heartache, we see points of light. Glimpses of hope, shining in his darkness.

Psalm 18:28 declares, “For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness.” However dark our night may be, our Lord will lighten it. He will not cease to be our hope, even when we feel most hopeless and don’t have the strength to lift our face. If we cry out to Him, He will pour out grace. He will carry us.

Much of the time we may feel our hearts failing. Our faith may seem weak and faltering. Despair may be pressing in on our thoughts every moment. But there is still light here. The God of perfect love and infinite power is with you. You can fall at His feet, “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

In Psalm 139:12, David writes, “even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” Our way is never hidden from our God. We are never forgotten by the One who moves heaven and earth to save us. He is greater and more powerful than any darkness, and He is surrounding you “as the mountains surround Jerusalem” (Psalm 125:2). Cling to those points of light He sends. Hold fast to the glimpses of hope. He is enough. And He will see you through.

“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you.”
Psalm 55:22a

“My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26

“For he has not despised or abhorred
the affliction of the afflicted,
and he has not hidden his face from him,
but has heard, when he cried to him.”
Psalm 22:24

“I love you, O LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.”
Psalm 18:1-3
