“I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude…And he said to me, ‘O Daniel, man greatly loved…from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.’” Daniel 10:5-6, 11-12
Every time I read the book of Daniel, it seems, I am stopped in my tracks as angels declare that he is greatly loved. My heart is filled with wonder of the great love our God has for those who are His. He knows us. He sees us. He understands our every thought and all the movements of our heart. And He loves us with a love that is greater than we can comprehend.
The God of heaven is holy. The splendor of His holiness manifests itself in brilliant glory that changes everything around Him. We see its effect on the angel in this passage. This God of such magnificent, transforming glory, is He who declares that you are greatly loved. Whatever your experience with the changing emotions and shifting circumstances of this world, know that His love is steadfast. It is sure. Because He never changes, and He has set His heart immovably on you in love—love filled to overflowing with His power, righteousness, and truth.
