His Own – Philippians 3:12

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect,
but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.”

Philippians 3:12

Christ Jesus has made me His own. I just want to dwell on this wondrous thought for a few moments. Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Everything was created by Him, and He holds all things together by the very word of His power. The worth of knowing Him far surpasses everything else we could gain. And He has made me His own.

For all of us in Christ, this is the reality of our lives—He has made us His own. By choice. Not because of anything we did, but because of the great love with which the God of Heaven loves us.

This is why we are able to forget what lies behind us and strain forward to what is ahead. The Redeemer who makes all things new has made us His own. He has declared who we are. We are not defined by our past. It does not bind us. Because we are His. Sealed with the Spirit of God. Renewed day by day. Brought from strength to strength and glory to glory, becoming increasingly reflective of our Lord and Savior as He purifies our hearts to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

“But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are his’” (2 Timothy 2:19a). The Lord knows those who are His. He will not forsake that. He will never be found unfaithful to those He has made His own. He will not allow even one to perish.

Whatever season you are walking through, no matter what you feel or see, even if you can’t hear Him, know this: Christ Jesus has made you His own. This is who you are. This is who you will always be. He laid down His life to bear the wrath of God for you. He rose from the dead and lives forever to solidify your hope and your future forever. He chose you and made you His own, and is now interceding on your behalf at the right hand of God the Father. You are His, and He is with you each moment. God our Savior is for you, and He never changes.
