“But the LORD is the true God;
he is the living God and the everlasting King…
It is he who made the earth by his power,
who established the world by his wisdom,
and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.”
Jeremiah 10:10, 12
This is our God. The God who is for us. The God who has written our days. The God who knows the plans He has for you, and those He has for me. The God who will fulfill His every purpose because nothing and no one can thwart Him. He is true, He is living, and He is everlasting. The One “seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever,” surrounded by creatures unceasingly giving Him glory and honor and thanks (Revelation 4:9).
He made the earth by His power. As we behold the many landscapes and wonders in our world, awed by the power and strength displayed in nature, let us recall that it is His power that created it all in the first place. It comes from Him. So the power seen in tornadoes and volcanoes and floods—their power cannot come close to the might of their Creator. If we truly believe this, how can we ever doubt what our God is able to do—in us, through us, and for us? Nothing is impossible for Him. Absolutely nothing. So when we come to Him, we can do so in confidence, knowing that our great God is able to accomplish everything He wills.
He established the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding stretched out the heavens. The wisdom and understanding of our God determined how everything was going to work. All the varied facets of the earth and the universe, the order and function of all things—it was all decided by our God. Wisdom and understanding far beyond our own. Our perspective is so limited, our understanding so narrow—but His is limitless. He sees all things. He knows all things. He understands all things to their fullest extent, every possibility and outcome.
As we come before Him, with all the hurt and confusion and fear and hope and dreams we carry, let us remember the unsearchable greatness of our God. He made the earth by His power and is able to do all things. He also established it all in flawless wisdom and understanding, and He orders our lives in the same way. Understanding us, knowing our circumstances, seeing it all from beginning to end, and directing our details accordingly. In faithfulness. In steadfast love. In grace and mercy and power. To give us a future and a hope in our Savior who will never fail us. Bringing glory to the living God and everlasting King, so that all will know the greatness of our almighty God.
