“Delight yourself in the LORD”
I’ve been contemplating this phrase lately…asking God what this looks like, how to delight in Him in the midst of this current difficult season. After a conversation with a friend yesterday, I began to see a glimpse, and I pray that God will continue to reveal the reality of this delight we can have in Him.
Delighting yourself in the Lord…it isn’t necessarily an outward happiness. Because sometimes, in those darker days, in the midst of grief or stress or various trials, outward happiness would be a facade. Instead, this is a delight in who our God is.
We delight in His faithfulness.
His declaration that He keeps us
He will never let us go
He is our Shield
He covers us with favor as with a shield and surrounds us as the mountains surround Jerusalem.
We delight in our Lord because He is ours and we are His, and nothing and no one can change that.
We delight because nothing can ever separate us from the love of God we find in Jesus Christ.
It is a delight that is found in our resting in Him. We may not be dancing with evident, abounding happiness—but our souls find peace and our hearts find true, abiding joy when we fix our eyes on our Savior God and delight in all that He is for us.
