“Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O Savior of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.
Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings.”
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
till the storms of destruction pass by.”
Satan—our ultimate enemy and adversary—intends for the storms of life to destroy us. He does all he can to tear us down, to make us abide not in the love of our God but in the darkness of our fears, our disappointments, our failures, our pain.
But our God is greater than all of that. He knows those who are His, and He surrounds us with steadfast love and faithfulness. We take refuge in our Savior and fix our eyes on who we are in Christ—a child of light, forgiven, free, righteous, chosen, set apart, loved, made beautiful and whole.
We take refuge in the mighty, matchless power and steadfast love of our God, who purposes these same storms for our strengthening and His glory, for the deepening of our joy and the purifying of our faith.
