“For the LORD gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity;
guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.”
Our Lord watches over the way of His saints. 2 Timothy 2:19 says, “The Lord knows those who are His.” In Psalm 139:1-3, David writes, “O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up…You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”
The Lord watches over our way, the way of those who are His, whose ransoms were paid by the Son of God when He made peace by the blood of His cross.
When we look to Him for guidance, He gives us wisdom, knowledge and understanding. He knows the way that is best, the path with the most joy and the most Him. Because He is our joy. It is the path filled with His provision, His power, His glory, and fulfillment of the purpose for which we were recreated in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:10).
In choosing to humble ourselves, seek the face of our God, and wait and listen for His Spirit to guide us, we will find that, “All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies” (Psalm 27:10). Steadfast love and faithfulness characterize our path. God will not abandon us on our road. Far from it – He is watching over our way. Never missing a moment. Continually giving wisdom to keep us on His straight path, if we will keep our eyes on Him and our ears trained to hear His voice.
Because His voice becomes unmistakable if we lay down our stubborn pride, study His Word, and consistently seek Him. It is when the rest of the world gets loud and our schedules get busy and we neglect to spend time with our God, that His voice becomes more difficult to discern. So let us quiet ourselves. Quiet our hearts and our minds and choose to spend time in the Word of God, meditating on His words and praying for the Spirit to make them come alive. The Lord will give wisdom. He will be our shield as we choose the righteous path. He will watch over our way and keep us every moment.
“The steps of a man are established by the LORD,
when He delights in his way;
though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
for the LORD upholds his hand.”
“He will not let your foot be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber…
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.”
Psalm 121:3, 8
